On Tuesday 6th October we lost our beloved Alistair Mant. Funny; wise; lover of Berlioz, Strauss and Abba; Australian; author; incessant reader; leadership guru; inventor of the frog/bicycle metaphor; loving Dad, husband and grandpa.
For the last eleven days of his life he was looked after by the wonderful staff at St Barnabas House Hospice in Worthing, and he died there, peacefully.
There’s so much more to say, in time, but for now here’s a quote from his university friend Clive James, in his Unreliable Memoirs. Using the pseudonym ‘Gilbert Bolt’, Clive James wrote of him, "Somehow, without lifting a finger, he made ordinary things amusing." We’d all agree with that.
In memory of an inspiring friend and colleague
In memory of my dear friend, Alistair. A source of wise counsel and warm friendship for almost 40 years. Rest in peace.
“The song is ended, but the melody lingers on…” Irving Berlin- songwriter. With fond and loving memory from the Waller family
